    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Bluetooth FM Transmitter,LDesign Wireless In-Car FM Adapter Car Kit with USB Car Charging for iPhone, Samsung, LG, HTC, Nexus, Motorola, Sony Android Smartphone (Wireless Phone Accessory)
The GoFlex I had broke after 5 years of use. While scurrying through Amazon to find a worthy replacement I came across this FM transmitter and was smitten by the reviews (although most weren’t verified purchase reviews). When the device was delivered I immediately plugged it into my car and was surprised by the voice play back telling me it was powered on, it even tells you when your transmitting Bluetooth device is connected. The major thing I noticed is the volume buttons on the side aren’t actually volume buttons but song skip buttons. It’s weird that they would be labeled volume buttons but perhaps it’s all in the way the device connects with iOS. I also feel like the volume overall is a little low even with the volume on my iPhone turned all the way up my car’s volume maxes out at 38 which so far while playing music through this FM transmitter sounds more like 28… So far though. I haven’t played around yet with the call quality. I will try to update this review after a little more experience with it. However, out of the box it has been a good experience so far, and considering the price a great buy!

    **Update 3/25/16**
So far so good! This little thing worked great on my commute to work this morning. I even took a few phone calls with it and the voice quilts was good. I had to do some fiddling around to find a good station. It seems like 87.9 here in the US works best for me. Su possibly the FCC doesn’t own anything below 88.1 so that’s something to consider with static feedback. I still have a little static if the car volume is turned all the way up when music is on silent but once the music starts the static becomes unprovable expect for a tiny bit between song changes, again though I had my volume on full blast to test it. Also figured out how to properly work the volume buttons on the device itself and having that turned up gives a richer sound. So far still pleased. I will update this review again in about a week.

If you’re reading this review, you probably have an older car with no bluetooth, USB or AUX input. One of my cars doesn’t have bluetooth, USB or auxiliary inputs and I really wanted to play music without being limited to CDs and radio. Everything else came as an added bonus. This compact FM transmitter does a pretty good job of bringing modern amenities into older cars.
The unit has a microSD slot and it can play whatever music you have on the microSD card. I have an old 16GB Sandisk microSD and it works just fine. It remembers what song it was playing last time you stopped your engine and will start playing the same song next time you start the car. If you pair your phone with it, it can play songs streamed from your phone and you can use apps such as Google Play Music, Spotify or TuneIn to stream music to your car’s stereo. It has a 3.5mm input jack if you want to send music to it through a cable from your ipad or phone. It has a USB port that can be used to charge your phone or tablet (2.5A max) or you could plug a USB drive with MP3 songs in it.
It has a built in microphone so you can also use it as a hands free device to make and receive calls. I made and received calls and quality was ok at low speed but degraded at highway speeds, definitely not as good as from my phone’s microphones. You shouldn’t expect the same call quality to be the same with your phone’s because your phone has 2 microphones, one in front and one in the back, that way it can easily separate your voice from ambient noise. This device, or any other device that is not close to your mouth, will have a hard time separating the voice from ambient noise. Of course, the soundproofing of your car makes a huge difference in call quality.

If you turn the device off by pressing the call button for 3 seconds, it will display your car’s battery voltage which can be very useful. If you have an Android phone running Lollipop (5.x) or newer, you can use Smart Lock and set this bluetooth device as trusted, that way your phone won’t lock itself when it is paired with the FM transmitter and you won’t have to introduce a PIN or pattern to unlock it.
I live in Washington DC metro where all FM frequencies are used, so the trickiest part for me was to find a weak FM station that doesn’t give static when playing music when paired with the transmitter. I tried 6-7 stations before I found one with that didn’t have static when using the FM transmitter. One thing that surprised me was the frequency that worked best did not have the lowest amount of interference when tuning in the radio, yet it gave me a crystal clear sound. There were other frequencies with lower amounts of interference but for some reason I’ll get a good amount of static when playing music from the G7. This part is trial and error but if you want to get clear sound with no static, you have to try several frequencies until you find one that doesn’t introduce static when playing music from the G7. Once I found the station the play quality improved substantially and it is now on par with any FM station that has strong signal.

Alternatively, you can go to radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/vacant introduce your zip code, click go and it will tell you what unused frequencies are in your zip code and you can try those first.

I would like to point out a part that is missing from the manual: to switch from Music (microSD) mode to Bluetooth mode for music streaming or the other way around, you have to press button 2 (the CH) button for 3 seconds or so until you hear the music voice prompt or bluetooth voice prompt. It took me a while to find how to do it. If you double click the CH button instead of long press, it will switch the voice prompts from English to Chinese. To revert back to English you have to double press the CH button until you hear a noise. Ask me how I know 🙂

***You want to use this transmitter in a cigarette lighter port that turns off when you take the keys out of ignition, you don’t want to plug it in an always-on port as it will drain your car’s battery in a jiffy.***

Now to the cons. One con is the voice that tells you when the phone is paired, when music is playing and so on. That voice is a women’s voice with heavy chinese accent (see video). The other con is that it randomly starts the Google Play Music on my phone. And when I say randomly, it means that I wasn’t able to find a pattern. I usually have Waze on all the time when I’m driving and the phone is in the windshield mount in front of me. Suddenly the Google Play Music pops up taking over the screen, so I have to turn it off and go back to Waze.

While the two cons are a bit annoying, I feel that the pros outweigh the cons by a huge margin and this device really deserves a 5 star.

UPDATE 5/31/2016: I’ve been using it daily for the past 3 months and it still works fine. In the meantime I tried…
