Fantastic case,
*My wife has an Otterbox defender for her iPhone, but we don’t like how the silicone starts to stretch away. While this case is still a hybrid, it is more like an Otterbox turned inside out. The cushioning silicone is inside, next to the device, while the hard shell is outside. There is still silicone exposed at the corners for added protection, but not enough that it can snag on a pocket and pull away.
*We like that the screen is exposed, so it is more responsive. The vendor also supplies a very nice protective film that you can apply before putting the device in the case.
*On the back lower corner, the button for the wrist strap is exposed just enough to allow full movement of the strap anchor, but not enough that you risk losing the strap. On other cases, that hole is so small that the strap will not move freely.
*Finally, a word about the headphone jack. Other reviewers have indicated that the hole is too small to insert the plug. We noticed that with the stock Apple earbuds, the hole through the silicone is tight, but you can easily push to fully seat the plug. I can see how the hole would be too small for other headphones, but since you are only passing through the silicone at that spot, a sharp knife and steady hand can easily trim away enough material to make room for any headphone plug.
*This case was exactly as pictured, colors matched, all advertised accessories were of good quality. While I don’t generally use a stylus, my son likes them for some of his games, so he was pleased that one was included.
*The bag that the case came in is a great addition, likely overlooked by most customers. It is a vinyl bag with a ‘ziploc’ top. This is great as a waterproof cover while we’re hiking and camping. You can still operate the touch screen through the bag, while still protecting the device from moisture.
Overall, this is a fantastic case. I highly recommend it.

The E-LV case assembled easily. A soft rubber case stretches over the iPod, and is then enclosed in a hard shell case, which all makes the iPod seem well protected. The case is fairly streamline and not too bulky. It is still easy to plug in ear buds for music and USB’s for charging. All the buttons- power, volume, wrist strap- function properly, as does the camera (both ways). The clear plastic screen protector that comes with the E-LV was fine for a day or two, but later needed to be removed because it minimized the quality of the touch screen just enough to be annoying. Removing it wasn’t a problem. The E-LV case comes with a stylus, which was fun to use, but totally unnecessary, and my 6 year old tore the rubber tip after just a few days, making the stylus useless. No real loss, though, in my opinion. Overall, this case is just fine, and a great value at $11.
The OtterBox Defender was very difficult to assemble. If you can figure it out, the hard case snaps on first, then the rubber cover goes on top of that. Having the rubber on the outside makes the iPod feel VERY secure in your hand; it doesn’t feel like it could accidentally slip from your hand. The wrist strap button gets covered completely, but the case comes with its own removable wrist strap. Overall, the OtterBox feels better in my hand than the E-LV, but I don’t think that is worth the extra cost.
The Griffin Survivor was the most expensive case I tested. Its three parts lock together around the iPod similarly to the other two models. But this case has covers for each port, which helps keep dust and other things out. The button for the wrist strap is completely covered, so we can’t use that now. The screen protector hasn’t given us any problems. The clip on the back of this case can be rotated to clip to things at any angle, and it locks open so you can use it as a stand. The clip is also removable. Overall, this is an excellent case, perfect for kids, but maybe a bit too bulky for adults, and more expensive than many other cases.
