Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What’s this?)
    இ Fuzzy Wuzzy’s Summary:
ѾѾѾѾѾ Highly recommended with warm fuzzies!

This bundle of iPod accessories consists of five items that can also be each purchased separately: AmazonBasics Silicone Case with Tread and Screen Protector for Apple iPod touch 4th Generation (Grey), AmazonBasics Silicone Case with Tread and Screen Protector for Apple iPod touch 4th Generation (Berry), AmazonBasics 2-Port USB Car Charger with 2.1 Amp Output (Black), AmazonBasics 3.5 mm Coiled Stereo Audio Cable (Stretched Length: 6.5 Feet/2.0 Meters), AmazonBasics USB Charging/Sync Cable for Apple iPod, iPhone, and iPad (3.2 Feet/1.0 Meter). One minor quibble that I have with this package is that I wished this bundle also included the AmazonBasics Wall Charger with USB Outlet (2.1 Amp Output); if I had purchased this package for myself (instead of receiving it via Amazon Vine), I would have gladly paid an extra $5 or $7 to have the wall charger included in this bundle. The included accessories allow me to charge my iPod either by plugging one or two iPods into the car charger or plugging an iPod into a computer using the supplied USB charging/sync cable.

At the time that I wrote this review, this packaged bundle is priced around $20, compared to the total price of about $43 if I was to purchase each item separately.

I have both a 3rd-generation iPod Touch and 4th-generation iPod Touch. The only items in this package that are specific to the 4th-gen iPod Touch are the two rubbery silicone cases. The supplied car charger and USB cable work just fine on both of my 3rd-gen and 4th-gen iPod Touch. These silicon cases actually can still be used on the 3rd-gen iPod Touch also. There is an oval hole that is cut out of one top corner of the case for where the 4th-gen iPod Touch’s camera lens and microphone peek out of. And on the 4th-gen iPod Touch, the sleep/wake button has been moved to the right side, above its camera lens, whereas the sleep/wake button is on the left side on the 3rd-gen iPod Touch. The two iPod silicon cases in this package have a raised bump molded into the case for where the sleep/wake button is positioned on the 4th-gen iPod Touch. But if you use one of these two cases for your 3rd-gen iPod Touch, you can still press through the silicon material on the left side to operate its sleep/wake button; the lack of a raised bump molded into the silicone case does not interfere with the operation of the sleep/wake button if this is used on a 3rd-gen iPod Touch. A 3rd-gen iPod Touch outfitted with this silicone case will just have the oval cutout hole on the top right that serves no purpose, but that does not detract from the case’s effectiveness to protect from bumps, small drops, and scratches.

Each of the two silicon cases also include a screen protector film, a soft cleaning cloth for wiping the iPod’s LCD screen of dirt and fingerprints before application of the film, and a small stiff smoothing card to squeegee-smooth out any trapped air bubbles after installing the film onto the LCD screen. These two screen protector films perfectly fit both the 3rd-gen and 4th-gen iPod Touch.

The car charger adapter has dual USB ports, which is great for charging both your iPod and your phone or GPS unit at the same time. The car charger adapter lights up a blue LED when it is being used.

The 3.5mm stereo audio cable works fine, as does the USB cable that can be used to both charge and sync your iPod.

This kit is basically a bunch of separate AmazonBasics iPod accessories grouped together in one box. It’s also significantly cheaper than buying all of them separately. There’s 2 silicone cases, a USB dock connector cable, 2 screen protectors, a USB car charger adapter, and a coiled audio cable with 3.5mm plugs. All of them are of pretty good quality.

The cases come in black and purple, and have grooves on the back which gives you a bit better grip on your iPod. I have no real use for the second case, but I guess it’s there if you need it. There’s bumps where the volume and lock buttons are, which allow you to use them even though they’re full covered. There’s also openings for the camera and mic on the back, and speaker, 3.5mm audio jack, and dock connector on the bottom. While the case protects the top and sides of the iPod great, the bottom doesn’t feel as snug, and is only protected by a flimsy strip of silicone that half-covers the bottom edge. I already needed to replace my iPod once due to dropping it on this edge and cracking the glass, so I was disappointed when I saw this otherwise well-made case didn’t protect the bottom as well. I guess it would be hard to protect the bottom without covering the bottom ports up.

The USB dock connector cable charges and syncs data, no complains about that. The cable seems to fit a bit more snugly into the iPod’s port, and there’s a larger area to grip the connector compared to the original Apple-supplied cable Nothing really bad here.

The 3.5mm coiled audio cable is also pretty well-made. I used it to hook up my iPod to a stereo system, and to record stuff on my laptop. The coil can be a little stiff at first, but after you stretch it out it’s fine.

The screen protectors have holes for the front-facing camera and home buttons, and come with a cleaning cloth. You *have* to make sure your screen is completely spotless before applying the protector on, as even the slightest piece of dust will make air bubbles form under the plastic film. Maybe it’s just me, but I actually think these are slightly better made than cheaper ones available elsewhere, as my fingers seem to glide over the protector better.

And lastly, the USB car charging adapter works fine. Plug the USB cable into the iPod, and the other end into the adapter, and it charges fine. The adapter has a small blue LED to let you know it’s getting power. The LED is actually quite bright. In my car, the light ends up being positioned in such a way that it can actually get annoying while driving at night. This isn’t really a fault of the product, but just something I’ve noticed while using it.

All of them have the AmazonBasics logo branded on them somewhere. At $20, it’s a bit pricier than buying some other accessories, but most of them are well-made, maybe with the slight exception of the bottom of the silicone case.
