China-based solar-grade monocrystalline silicon wafer maker Xian LONGi Silicon Materials will set up annual integrated production capacity consisting of 300MWp for solar-grade monocrystalline silicon ingots, 1GWp of corresponding wafers, 500MWp of monocrystalline silicon solar cells and 500MWp of PV modules in the Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone, Kuching City, Sarawak State, Malaysia, according to China media reports.
Xian LONGi, through its Malaysia-based subsidiary LONGi (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, has acquired the factory of SunEdison Kuching Sdn Bhd, a Malaysia-based subsidiary of US-based SunEdison. Xian LONGi had a total annual production capacity of 5GWp for solar-grade monocrystalline silicon wafers and 1.5GWp for PV modules at the end of 2015, and plans to expand to wafer capacity 7.5GWp in 2016 and 12.0GWp in 2017 and module capacity to 5GWp in 2016 and 6.5GWp in 2017.
