Alphabet’s Waymo is officially speaking with Honda about collaborating on autonomous vehicle development. If the companies end up working together, Waymo’s software and sensors will be added to existing Honda vehicles. Engineers from the auto maker would work directly with those from Waymo.
Honda has its own “on-going” efforts in the area of self-driving vehicles. It hopes to offer fully automated driving on highways by 2020.
By working with Waymo, Honda can “explore a different technological approach to bring fully self-driving technology to the market.”
A collaboration between Waymo and Fiat Chrysler involving 100 Pacifica minivans was revealed a few days ago.
