Samsung is investing billions to upgrade its manufacturing capabilities around the globe and a good portion of that money will be pumped into just one facility in Korea. The company is spending $32 billion overall, with $26 billion going to a semiconductor factory in Pyeongtaek.
With that new production facility, Samsung is able to produce 64-layer, fourth-gen V-NAND chips. It’ll significantly increase its production as a result of the investment. The investment is partly coming in response to a rise in demand brought on by new industries like the Internet of Things and AI.
That $26 billion will be spent by 2021. A few more billion will be invested in Samsung’s Hwaseong site.
