Samsung launches Galaxy A8 (2016) smartphone in Korea

202

Samsung is launching a follow-up to last year’s Galaxy A8 smartphone… and it’s still called the Galaxy A8.

Like last year’s model, the Galaxy A8 (2016) is a phone with a big-screen, mid-range (by modern standards) specs, and a slim design.

The 5.7 inch phone will be available from SK Telecom starting October 1st for ₩ 649,000 ($590).

The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2016) features a 1920 x 1080 pixel display, a 3,300 mAh battery, and a Samsung Exynos 7420 processors. It features 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 16MP rear camera and an 8MP camera on the front.

There’s a fingerprint scanner and support for Samsung Pay, and the phone ships with Android 6.0.

Samsung’s new phone measures 156.6mm x 76.8mm x 7.2mm (6.2″ x 3″ x 0.28″) which makes it taller and wider than the 5.1 inch Galaxy S7 or 5.5 inch Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, but also thinner than either of those phones (which are both 7.9mm, or 0.35 inches thick).

It’s not clear if the new phone will be available outside of Korea anytime soon.
