Some smartphone manufacturers prefer front and some rear-mounted fingerprint scanners, while Sony is the only one who uses side fingerprint scanners. Samsung was one of those that prefer front-mounted scanner, and mostly uses physical home buttons to embed fingerprint scanners into them.
Since there will be no Home button with Galaxy S8, there are only two solutions left for Samsung – rear-mounted scanner or a scanner that can read through display. While many expect to see the latter tech, new rumours suggest that Samsung could use the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The report also mentions that the phone won’t use LG Innotek’s iris recognition tech that uses a single module for both camera and scanner, but rather the tech from the Galaxy Note 7.
