Production of the Wii U in Japan will soon come to a close, Nintendo has confirmed. Reports of production ending earlier this year turned out to be incorrect, but not by much. A caption on the company’s Japanese website says, “production is scheduled to end soon.” That caption is on a picture of the console.
For now, according to the caption, this only affects Nintendo’s operations in Japan. One of the main models, the black Wii U, is already out of production.
This shift in manufacturing comes ahead of the Nintendo Switch’s release, which is scheduled for early 2017.
