Microsoft is now entirely sure the Surface Pro 3’s battery issues are the result of a software problem and as such, they’ll be addressed with an update. A hardware problem has been taken off the table and Microsoft is now developing a patch that’ll get rid of the battery degradation issue.
Since it is clear this isn’t a hardware problem, Microsoft recommends against asking for a full unit replacement. Unfortunately, some consumers have already paid hundreds of dollars to get a new Surface Pro 3.
Microsoft doesn’t have a release date for the patch.
