LG Targets Power Users with Ultralight Laptops

New laptops from LG Electronics are aimed at power users looking for high-performance machines without having to carry too much weight. The LG Gram 15 series features two new 15-inch ultra-lightweight laptops that the company says fit the bill.

Available for immediate purchase, the 15-inch laptops are among the lightest on the market, coming in at only 2.2 pounds each and sporting slim, 0.7-inch thick form factors and magnesium alloy bodies for increased durability. Despite their lightweight design, users will still be able to enjoy 15.6-inch screens.

Slim Form Factor

The company said it is targeting “everyday power users” who nevertheless want extremely portable Windows machines. The new laptops will each come equipped with a sixth generation Intel Core processor, either the i5 or i7, depending on the model. The cheaper model featuring the i5 processor and 256 GB of storage will retail for a suggested price of $ 1,099, while the version with the i7 processor and 512 GB of storage will sell for a suggested price of $ 1,499.

For multimedia enthusiasts, each laptop features a solid state drive that can be configured to include as much as 512 GB of storage, more than twice the amount of the previous model, and also offer up to 8 GB DDR3 memory. Both models will come with Windows 10 pre-installed.

The LG Gram 15 laptops also feature plenty of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. New for this year, the LG Gram 15 machines feature the new USB-C and USB 3.0 ports, micro-USB and micro-SD slots, and HDMI ports, which is uncommon among laptops of their size and weight.

The machines’ displays also promise to keep users happy. Each new laptop will include a full HD 1920×1080 display with a 16:9 aspect ratio for ideal video viewing. The display also features LG’s In-Plane Switching technology that ensures accurate color saturation and contrast, even at wide viewing angles.

Reading and Movie Modes

The new laptops will also come with a few other less common features, such as Instant Booting. With this feature, the operating system starts up immediately when the user opens the display, whether it’s totally powered off or simply in sleep or hibernation mode.

Reader Mode, meanwhile, provides optimal conditions for reading by reducing blue light, helping to protect users’ eyes and allow for comfortable reading over extended periods of time.

Movie Mode is a similar feature for movie buffs. It optimizes the laptops’ displays for video viewing to help make colors more vibrant. The company said each machine also boasts a battery life of up to seven hours, allowing most users to enjoy a full day’s use from a single charge.
