LEAGOO T5C Review – Unboxing The Beau

We begin this review with the unboxing ritual for the device. It is always exciting to unbox a new smartphone for the first time. There is that exciting thrill which envelops the mind due to the curiosity to see what lies inside the packaging box. In this case, the T5C presents with a clean white packaging box with the model name as well as a photo of the front view and rear view of the T5C on the front side of the box. The key specifications of the Leagoo smartphone are also printed on side of the packaging box.Leagoo T5C

Inside the box, you’ll find the smartphone wrapped in a Leagoo-branded nylon. Also included are the charging adapter, USB cable, a TPU protective case, and a SIM tray ejector.

Design & Features – Leagoo T5C Review

Leagoo T5C is a budget smartphone which is presently available for $99 at GearBest. Design-wise, the device features a metal body and a smooth display which curves slightly on all fours. The device packs a front home button which doubles as the fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor is pretty fast, unlocks the device in 0.1 seconds. The T5C also packs a selfie camera and front flashlight to go along with the selfie camera. So, you won’t have a reason not to capture scenes at night with vivid clarity.Leagoo T5C

Turning over to the rear aspect, you’ll find a dual camera setup with autofocus and LED flash. The camera is tilted to the top left corner. The region where the camera is located is at the top is made of plastic. So too is the bottom edge made from plastic immediately after where the antenna bands cut across the rear panel. The device is available in Elegant Black and isn’t too weighty as there is just a 3000mAh battery onboard. There is equally a Champagne Gold variant but that seems to cost a tad higher than the Black variant.Leagoo T5C

Superb Display Quality:

It may interest you to know that the device packs a phablet-size 5.5-inch IPS display with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080p and a pixel density of 441 PPI. With this resolution, pictures are displayed in excellent graphics. The display is sharp and it teams up with the beautiful themes provided by Android 7.0 Nougat which provides the interface. There are no navigation buttons under the display apart from the fingerprint sensor/home button. The device comes with three onscreen navigation buttons which can be docked when needed and undocked as desired. In addition, the device packs a 2.5D curved Glass screen with a 178 degree viewing angle. I must confess that the Leagoo T5C’s display is one aspect that got me attracted to the device.

Impressive Hardware

Another interesting aspect of the T5C is the hardware, piloted by a new Spreadtrum SC9853i mobile chip. The processor is an Octa-core processor with a clock speed of 1.8GHz. The processor is paired with 3GB of RAM which is more than adequate to coordinate multiple processes running at the same time without lag. There is also 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via the microSD slot.  The device is a dual SIM phone, both slots are microSIM slots but the second SIM slot also doubles as the microSD slot. You would want to be careful while using the SIM tray to avoid damaging it as it is fabricated using plastic. The SIMtray is located at the left side of the device while the volume rockers and power button are on the right hand side of the display screen.Leagoo T5C review

The LEAGOO premium budget model also has Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient Light, Fingerprint, Hall and Geomagnetic sensors. So, you can see the T5C has an impressive hardware setup.

Benchmark Performance

Our LEAGOO T5C review also involves checking out the performance of the device on benchmark apps. Performance on benchmark is also pretty impressive as the device manages an AnTuTu score of 50,000 points just out of the box. However, after the installation of several apps and games,  the score reduced slightly to around 47,000 which is still amazing.LEAGOO T5c

Operating System:

Leagoo T5C runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. This means the device is well positioned to be upgraded to Android Oreo in no distant time. We don’t know when Leagoo we do that anyway. But that may happen soon, considering the ambitious manner the Chinese tech company is going about its restructuring. The smartphone comes with several customised apps, including a Leagoo app store that resembles the Google PlayStore and even seems to be a mirror app pf the PlayStore. The device did come with PlayStore, though.

Other essential Google apps such as Google Maps, Google Navigation, Flashlight, Clock, Calendar, YouTube etc are pre-installed on the device. In addition, the apps are well arranged and not difficult to navigate around with ease.

Top Notch Camera Quality:

As if the premium body build, powerful processor, sharp display and ample memory are not enough to push this into contending for the king of mid-rangers, the T5C packs a camera system that delivers pictures and videos with vivid clarity that will leave you stunned. Don’t worry, we’ve got camera samples captured off the lenses of the Leagoo T5c to support these claims.

Leagoo T5C Bokeh Effect

The Leagoo T5C comes with three cameras; a dual camera setup at the rear and a single selfie shooter at the front. The dual rear camera setup comprises a 13MP primary shooter and a 2MP secondary sensor which is a Depth of Field sensor. Thus, the dual camera is capable of capturing photos with Bokeh effect. There is also an Autofocus and dual-LED flash oat the rear. Apart from Bokeh effect, the rear cameras offer users several shooting modes, all churning out excellent picture quality. At the front, there is a 5MP selfie camera with front flash.

The video recording quality of Leagoo T5c is also very defining as you can record at [email protected] video resolution. You will even detect other cool features in the camera. Features like Continuous Shooting, Digital Zoom, Dual Camera, Exposure Compensation, Face Detection, Geotagging, HDR, ISO Settings, Panorama, Scene Mode, Self-Timer, Touch Focus, White Balance Settings, 1.12um Pixel Size, 5P Lens, etc.

Leagoo T5C Review: Battery life

Leagoo T5C packs a generous 3,000mAh Lithium polymer non-removable battery onboard. The battery is adequate enough to see the phone run for 280 hours on standby. The device comes with a standard 5V/2A charger which provides fast charge technology. The Spreadtrum SC9853i processor seems to do a good job of power efficiency such that the battery doesn’t drain easily and the device doesn’t get hot easily as well.
