According to a new report published by VentureBeat, the Mate 9 will not be the only new phablet that Huawei will unveil early next month. The Mate 9 will apparently be joined by a more expensive Mate 9 Pro model, which will feature a large 5.9-inch 1440 x 2560 resolution Quad HD dual-curved display. The curved-screen variant is apparently codenamed “Long Island”. The standard Mate 9 on the other hand is said to be codenamed “Manhattan”.

Thanks to its higher resolution display, the Mate 9 Pro will support Google’s new Daydream VR. As of now, the only handsets to support Google’s Daydream VR platform are the Pixel and Pixel XL. The Mate 9 on the other hand is going to feature a 1080p resolution display of the same size.

Apart from a higher resolution display, the Mate 9 Pro will be largely similar to the standard Mate 9. Both phablets will be powered by Huawei’s Kirin 960 SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM. The recently unveiled Kirin 960 chipset is a significant upgrade over the Kirin 955 SoC in terms of performance, easily matching any flagship 2016 mobile SoC on the market. In terms of storage, the two phablets will be offered with multiple storage options starting from 64GB going all the way up to 256GB. At the back, we expect to see a dual-lens camera similar to the P9, although it is rumored that the resolution will be bumped up to 20MP instead of 12MP.

Huawei will be announcing both the Mate 9 and the Mate 9 Pro on November 3rd at an event in Munich, Germany.
