Chinese smartphone manufacturer Gionee is working on a new entry-level Android smartphone aimed at the masses. Carrying the model number GN5005, the smartphone has received certification from Chinese telecommunication certifying agency TENAA.
Like most other entry-level Android smartphones on the market right now, the GN5005 will sport a 5-inch display with 720 x 1280 HD resolution. The TENAA listing doesn’t list the SoC powering the smartphone, except saying that it will be a quad-core chip clocked at 1.25 GHz. In the memory department, the Gionee GN5005 will offer 3GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage. The smartphone does include a microSD card slot, so further expansion by up to 128GB is very much possible.
At the rear will be an 8MP primary camera, while on the front there will be a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies. In terms of dimensions, the smartphone measures 144.3 x 70.5 x 8.6mm and weighs in at 140 grams. It will be running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system out of the box, with Gionee’s custom UI skin on top.
While the hardware specifications aren’t spectacular, the GN5005 should be quite impressive in the battery life department. That’s because the handset packs an impressive 4000mAh capacity battery inside.
The smartphone’s release date remains unknown at this point, but whenever it does on sale, it will be available in Gold and a few other color options.
