Apple allegedly violated patents belonging to VirnetX with its iMessage and FaceTime applications and those violations have led to a multi-year patent battle. In what may be the end to that lawsuit, a court has ordered Apple to pay $439.7 million in damages.
VirnetX announced the ruling and said the court was on its side with every motion.
The Court granted all VirnetX’s motions; motion for willful infringement and enhanced the royalty rate during the willfulness period by 50 percent, from $1.20 to $1.80, awarding VirnetX enhanced damages in the amount of $41,271,364.80 against Apple thereby, granting VirnetX a total sum of $343,699,314.80 in pre-interest damages. – VirnetX
Apple lost against VirnetX in 2012, but that ruling was later thrown out in 2014. Last year, VirnetX again pursued the case and was looking to receive $532 million from Apple.
