We have some pretty exciting news to report today as we can share with you the information on the first two AMD Threadripper processors. Yes AMD is announcing the info on clocks, SKUS and prices today. As well as some Cinebench 15 scores.
As we post this information, AMD has released a live video where AMD CEO Lisa Su announces the specs, pricing, and availability details. We already have the information at hand though and in this news-items we’ll be sorting out the details. AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors, and its respective X399 motherboard platform, will be available worldwide in the HEDT (high-end desktop) market in early August and AMD will initially release two models: a 16-core, 32-thread model and a 12-core, 24-threaded model.
If you startup the video, please do look at the Cinebench tests, jawdropping fast! The 1950X scores over 3000 points in the multi-threaded CB score:
Now I took the liberty of adding the two CB scores into our own chart, look above – that is roughly what that would look like. You’re still staring aren’t you?
Both processors are fully unlocked and seat themselves onto the new Socket TR4. It is confirmed that this processor and X399 motherboard platform is based on quad-channel memory capability, and as previously already shared that massive processor will offer you a staggering 64 lanes of PCI Express.
- The flagship processor is the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X, a 16-core product that will get a 3.4 GHz nase frequency with the ability to precision boost to 4.0 GHz (!). These processors are SMT, thus ‘hyper-threaded’ towards 32 threads. This processor will retail for 999 USD.
- The Ryzen Threadripper 1920X is the 12-core product, the base clock is a notch higher at 3.5 GHz with precision boost to 4.0 GHz, thus SKU will get 24 threads. This processor will retail for 799 USD.
According to AMD both these Ryzen Threadripper processors will offer higher performance in Cinebench r15 than Intels Core i9 7900X, (which makes sense as the 7900X has 10 cores). AMD is on track to launch Ryzen Threadripper CPUs and motherboards in early August, with Alienware Area-51 Threadripper Edition system pre-orders starting July 27.
