This is definitely a great buy for $150, October 3, 2015

This is definitely a great buy for $150!! I wanted to upgrade the vehicle with a back-up camera, and I figured why not add bluetooth and GPS for a few more dollars. This unit does everything it says it does, and everything works. Complete installation took me 4 hours (I’m a casual DIY-er, not an expert by any means).

Now lets get to the dirty details, keep in mind what you’re paying for as you read on, because even with all the imperfections, I still consider it well worth $150.

For starters, this unit sounds way worse than the original unit (on a 2002 Camry). Radio is static-y, speaker sound has less static noise than the radio but even with a pure AUX connection it’s still sub-par. And the sound from DVDs is flat out terrible. Audio CDs sound fine though. I’m not quite sure why… But lets be honest, No one buys this to improve the sound quality. If you’re an audiophile trying to boost your car stereo’s quality, you shouldn’t even be looking at sub-$300 units. This unit is good for what it’s intended for, but don’t expect high quality.

There is no front AUX input. It is only available from the rear, standard RCA L/R input. I used an Y-connector RCA to 3.5mm so that I can plug anything in on the fly. Also, when it is in AUX mode with audio only, the screen will go all blue with the words “no signal”. Sound still comes through, the screen just looks ugly.

GPS is Laggy, but works. The Antenna need not be on the top of the dash, you can leave it in your cup holder if it looks ugly anywhere else. The map is also pre-loaded in a micro-SD card already inserted into the unit. No need to look for it.

Backup Camera: Here’s the tricky part. The instructions are practically useless.
    1) First, figure out which side is UP! the tiny screws next to the lens should face DOWN, the little hole where the wire comes out faces UP
    2) The wires from the camera to the tail light are a bit awkward. the power cord is long while the RCA signal cable is short, they both have to be connected to the wire from the dash unit. The dash needs both the RCA video signal AND the 12V reverse light trigger for automatic reverse camera. I used an RCA cable extender to match the length.
    3) The wires are also a bit short (for a 2002 Camry). Just long enough if I choose not to conceal the wires and let them hang in mid air by the side of the trunk. I’m fine with that, but keep that in mind if you have a bigger car. (or a car where the reverse light is far from your license plate)
    4) The good thing is the cable that runs from the dash unit to the camera is quite long. It also has a “mysterious” red wire. It is for the auto trigger from the reverse tail light so the dash unit knows to expect reverse camera signal.
    5) When in backup camera mode, the audio also mutes. Not a big deal but it’s a shame they didnt think of this

Last complaint: useless apps like calculator and calendar when they dont sync with phone… who needs that? just making the screen look messy…

Bottom line: get this if you don’t care about sound quality but care about adding a bunch of modern features with a very low cost. Otherwise, you’re better off keeping your car’s stock radio and $150 cash!

Good for the price, could be more user friendly. Display is kind of lame but looks nice and clean. Static on the radio channels but clear on bluetooth.
Connecting the bluetooth can be difficult. Will not let multiple devices pair and you have to reset the pass code everytime you want to switch phones. I could be doing it wrong but either way it’s not that user friendly. Back up camera is clear, when mounted on a larger truck the lines for parking are way off the ground. I could adjust it but then my view is limited. I noticed a few reviews complained of the back up camera not automatically turning on when put in reverse, other users had to put the vehicle in reverse then push the camera button on the unit. Mine does not do that, it automatically switchs to the back up camera when put in reverse like it should. It does have really annoying alerts that come on when speeding, it shouts at you at full volume. Thankfully there is a option to turn off alerts.
Otherwise for the price can’t really complain, I went cheap on the head unit but put Alpines in all 4 doors so I think its a good combination. Lastley don’t forget to buy the wire harness and dash kit for your year/make/model of vehicle that does not come with it. Common sense but still figured I’d mention it.
