We have already taken a glance at several standalone smartwatches such as the FINOW Q1. Today we are going to review another standalone smartwatch dubbed as the ZGPAX S83. Probably this handset will be applied by sports watch lovers or those who like to wear sports accessories when training, as the ZGPAX S83 comes with a corresponding design and features. But not to gab too much let’s stop at this point and start exploring the selling points of this smartwatch.
ZGPAX S83 Design
Unlike the S366 this model comes with a square shaped design, but it can’t be compared with many other similar smartwatches like the Z8, as there are some concavities and convexity. I guess this has been made to add some sports characters to the device.
As the ZGPAX S83 is offered for ladies too, you can find at least two color options. But what’s more interesting, the white versions comes with a glossy bezel making the smartwatch look inexpensive. The bezel is made of a sandblasted aluminum. Fortunately, the same cannot be said for the black version that is more common model and can be worn both by women and men. At the end, there is one version for the black colored model that comes with a silver bezel. This one also looks unsightly. As for all the color options, there 5 versions – black/black bezel, black/gold bezel, black/silver bezel, white/lilac bezel, and white/gold bezel. I guess these are not the best combinations, but they are still acceptable.
The smartwatch is bulky coming at dimensions of 5.98×4.30×1.40cm, but the gradient edges of the device make us think we are dealing with a slim product. But later we’ll see the ZGPAX S83 sports a camera and the housing carries two buttons on the right side, thus it just couldn’t come with a slim body.
The back of the watch comes with standard design elements meaning you can remove the back cover to input a SIM or something else. The watch comes with high quality silicon wristbands that are either in black or white depending on the model. The micro USB port is on the left side. The frame of the watch and two buttons on the side are made of aluminum as well. As you can see, there are many parts made of metal, that’s why it weighs almost 60 grams.
ZGPAX S83 Hardware
This smartwatch is packed with a 1.54-inch capacitive touchscreen at a resolution of 320×320 pixels, which seems to be a standard for many similar handsets. The ZGPAX S83 also has a 2MP camera that is one of the surprising features of it, and I guess it can play a decisive role when looking for a cheap smartwatch. This camera is capable of taking photos and recording videos at acceptable quality. Plus, the camera can be also interpolated to 5MP.
Honestly, the hardware of this watch is much better than the design. Look it is powered with a quad-core processor clocked at 1GHz frequency and paired with a 512MB of RAM and 4GB of ROM. Recently we have been reviewing under-$70 smartphone with a MTK6580 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM and we were disappointed. I mean the ZGPAX S83 is equipped with a processor, RAM and ROM almost similar to a 5-inch smartphone. However, there is a TF slot to help you when you need to expand the internal memory.
As for the last hardware feature, the smartwatch comes with a 450mAh built-in battery that should serve you long. For example, it can keep charged for up to 72 hours of standby mode, 6 hours of talk time, and 8 hours of music play.
ZGPAX S83 Connectivity
As I said at the beginning of the article, the ZGPAX S83 supports a nano SIM card slot, thus you can input your own SIM card and enjoy 3G connectivity on your smartwatch. It is compatible with GSM+WCDMA networks at a frequency of GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz and WCDMA 850/2100MHz, respectively. But there are also Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, and micro USB port to provide more connectivity options. Say you can connect headphones via Bluetooth and make calls or listen to music.
ZGPAX S83 Software
The ZGPAX S83 is a full Android device running on v5.1. While you can complaint the manufacturer why it doesn’t come with Android 6.0 when we are at the threshold of Android 7.0, I have to say this version of Google’s mobile operating system is quite enough to perform what we wait from it. Plus, you can visit Play Store to download any app, game or widget compatible with this product. Thus you can use it as a regular Android mobile phone.
As expected, the smartwatch has many options to change the interface making it look in the way you want. But there are more interesting function like music player and video player that support AAC,AMR,MP3,OGG,WAV and 3GP,FLV,MP4,RMVB, respectively. You can also plug an earphone to access the radio.
The ZGPAX S83 can serve you as a regular phone, which means there are several profiles like general, silent, meeting, outdoor, and user’s style. Not that many apps are provided by the manufacturer like other smartwatches, but I don’t this can be taken into account seriously. I mean it’s an Android smartwatch, so you can download anything you want. Truly, it comes with a pedometer, but you can get more similar apps.
Conclusion and Pricing
Honestly, this is not the best smartwatch reviewed by us, but the ZGPAX S83 has many attractive features to look at attentively. For example, I guess the design will become one of the selling points of this product, and though there are some disadvantages I talked at the beginning, this handset comes with a unique and stylish design. The rest I matter of taste. As for pricing, it is available for under $80. There are several options you can choose from, but we have done the work instead of you.
