The open-world design of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is going to carry over into future games, says series producer Eiji Aonuma. An open-world setup will be a key part of future Zelda entries, at least for the foreseeable future.
From now on, this will probably be the standard form. However, eventually that in itself could become seen as ‘Zelda as usual’, and we would start to hear opinions this way and that way. This has always been the case, and the result of what we have made is ‘Zelda’. – Aunuma
Given the notable success Breath of the Wild has seen and the positive reviews for the game, sticking with a similar format appears to make sense.
