You can fill up the internal storage of the Nintendo Switc…

Nintendo Japan has posted the file sizes for launch titles for the Nintendo Switch, which will be heading to retail stores next week. With the hybrid console sporting a paltry 32GB internal storage — which will have 26GB available to the user — there’s always the issue that downloadable digital titles will quickly fill up the storage.

That’s exactly what we’re seeing today. While most digital titles are under 10GB (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe comes in at 7GB), Dragon Quest Heroes I·II takes up 32GB, making it too big to fit on the console’s internal storage. Nintendo confirms as such on its website, stating that an SD card is needed to install and play the game. Here are the file sizes for the launch titles:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 13.4 GB
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 7 GB
  • Snipperclips: Cut it Out, Together! – 1.60 GB
  • Disgaea 5 – 5.92 GB
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris – 1.09 GB
  • I Am Setsuna – 1.40 GB
  • Dragon Quest Heroes I·II – 32 GB
  • Nobunaga’s Ambition – 5 GB

The storage situation on the Switch is designed to favor physical cartridges, which don’t count toward the internal storage on the hybrid console. Nintendo obviously wants customers to pick up physical copies of a game (which usually cost more) versus downloading digital titles, and the low internal storage on the Switch ensures that.
