What features any laptop should come with? It should be portable. It should look attractive. It should be thin. It should be packed with a decent specs list and run on a stable software. And finally, it should be priced affordably. In all cases, when all the aforementioned factors exist but the latter, you can take your hands on the MacBook Air. But if you are looking for a laptop at a low price, the Apple’s product should be excluded from the list. In all those cases we have to search for a Chinese laptop made as an alternative to top brands. I’ll recommend Chuwi and Jumper, but they are mainly focused on tablet PCs. Although the Chuwi LapBook series models and Jumper EzBook family devices deserve some attention. On the other hand, customers have quite different requirements towards tablet PCs. As for the Jumper models, they are great and they are cheap. But there is a laptop brand popular in the globe due to its good performance, astonishing look, and the lowest price. It’s YEPO. Some time ago we reviewed one of its models, the YEPO 737S. It’s an awesome laptop under-$200. Sounds illogical, but it’s so. Today we are going to get acquainted with another ultrabook from this series, the YEPO 737A. Though it’s priced a bit higher than its siblings, there are real reasons why it costs more.

The key features are very attractive, but we have to look at the laptop from inside as well as from outside.
This is the YEPO 737A’s selling point, undoubtedly. As the company claims, this model uses new technology as well as new material for the housing. First, the YEPO 737A comes with a new aluminum with wholly pressing. As you remember, the previous model used aluminum for the bottom cover, while the rest of the laptop was made of plastic. This ultrabook uses pressed aluminum, which is mainly used when making solid details. Thus the metal passes through a die casting, which forces molten aluminum into a steel die under pressure. This manufacturing technique is normally used for high-volume production. Plus, a couple of CNC crafting process is used for better appearance. That’s why the YEPO 737A weighs only 1.4kg and can be handled via one hand. In comparison to the 737S, this one has the same weight, but it is at the half thickness of 1cm only.
This ultrabook has enhanced screen if comparing with the previous version. Though it uses the same technology and comes with the same resolution as the 737S, the bezels around the display have become narrower – 10.5mm. That’s why the screen ratio is 16:9. Like its predecessor, this one sports a 0.3MP front camera for video chat. I know many will complain of this feature requiring more, but it’s useless to pack a cheap laptop with a larger sensor.
As for the keyboard, the YEPO 737S didn’t bring any inconvenience when typing for a long time, but the manufacturer has decided to improve it as well. The YEPO 737A comes with a keycap of 15mm, which is quite sufficient for any used with any finger size. The key pitch is at 1.8mm that helps not to press wrong keys during typing. And finally, the touchpad area has been increased by 30%. Actually, the keys are made of a cheap plastic, but thanks to a seamless design and a key-made-processes, it’s a pleasure to type on such a keyboard. It’s a full-sized keyboard without a numerical part. The only thing I didn’t like in it is the power button layout on the right upper corner. Agree we used to see the Delete key there. Instead of it, the latter has been placed under the Backspace. And the ‘|’ key has been removed next to the Right Alt key.
As we are dealing with an ultrabook, it’s reasonable not to see too many interfaces placed on the sides. However, this laptop has everything you need. A DC port along with a USB 3.0 port and TF card slot is placed on the left-hand-side. Another USB 3.0 port accompanied with a 3.5mm audio jack and a mini HDMI port is on the right side. Actually, you don’t need more interfaces.
Finally, the bottom of the YEPO 737A comes with four rubber legs and two speakers placed on edges. So there is no complaint about the sound experience.
Well, the YEPO 737A can’t boast of a super-powerful and the latest Intel chip like the Xiaomi Notebook Pro. But it doesn’t need it. This is a cheap laptop, which means it is designed for customers with lower income or for those who don’t want to spend much on a laptop. This ultrabook is powered by an Intel Celeron N3450 chip. The latter can be found on such great devices as the Chuwi Hi13, Jumper EzBook 3S, Chuwi LapBook 12.3, Chuwi SurBook, T-bao Tbook Air and many more. This simply means all cheap laptops or tablet PC that have been made with a good and stable performance in mind are packed with this popular processor.
However, this is a real change in comparison to the YEPO 737S that sports an Intel Cherry Trail X5-8300 quad-core chipset with a 32-bit architecture and max 1.86GHz frequency. The Intel Celeron N3450 is a quad-core chip announced in mid-2016. Basically, it runs at a frequency of 1.1GHz, but it can reach up to 2.2GHz. The Intel Celeron N3450 is based on the Apollo Lake platform. Like the Braswell chips, it is manufactured in a 14nm process technology with FinFETs. There is a separate DirectX 12-capable GPU besides four CPU cores. Plus, it supports DDR3L/LPDDR3/LPDDR4 memory (dual-channel, up to 1866/2400 MHz).
With the launch of this SoC Intel started a new era of chips differing from the Atom series. The performance has been improved by 30%. It’s faster by 15-20% in comparison to the old N3710.
Its Intel HD Graphics 500 is based on company’s Gen9 architecture. This graphics card is equipped with 12 EUs and a clock of up to 700MHz. At last, the N3450 also includes an advanced video engine supporting playback of VP9 and H.265 material (8-bit color-depth). It scores around 2000 points at Dragon X Benchmark.
Another change concerns the memory. The YEPO 737A is packed with a 6GB DDR3L RAM. As the latter is larger, you don’t have to worry about any app or game to run out of memory. But what’s interesting, the laptop comes in two versions – one of them is packed with a 64GB ROM, while the second one features a 128GB of internal memory. This option can be expanded up to 128GB via a TF card slot.
In comparison to the traditional HDD cards, eMMC flash memories are the way faster. The read and write speed reaches up to 509.77MBps and 385.62MBps, respectively (theoretically). The traditional mechanical HDD provides 73MBps and 52MBps for the same features. But if compared with the SSD, of course, it yields. Although, that’s not a problem. The YEPO 737A supports M2 SSD expansion (the 128GB variant).
Finally, the YEPO 737A is equipped with a 4800mAh battery that is capable of providing up to 5-6 hours of working time.
The YEPO 737S has been a very popular ultrabook. Even its sibling, the YEPO 737T succeeded a lot. Now it’s turn of the YEPO 737A. The latter costs a bit higher than the aforementioned models, but it’s still one of the cheapest laptops in the planet. Thanks to an enhanced design and some hardware such as memory the YEPO 737A looks more attractive than its predecessors. But what’s more important it catches eyes due to a stable performance. Currently, there are two models of this amazing ultrabook featuring 64GB and 128GB. The former one is priced around $250, while the second one costs $280. Taking into account what decent specs list it comes with, we can state the YEPO 737A is one of the best offers in the market.
