All top smartphone makers have their own production of chips. Apple, Samsung, and Huawei that lead the list work hard on this sphere not to depend on any other manufacturer like Qualcomm and MediaTek. So Xiaomi does. Last year the company announced its first mobile SoC and the phone powered by it. The Xiaomi Mi 5C became a real sensation. And though there are no numbers on how this phone sales, it was a very important move for the manufacturer. As for its continuation, we have heard the Surge S2 went into production in June 2017. Moreover, we have heard this chip will debut on the Xiaomi Mi 6C, which should come at a price tag of 1699 yuan ($265). But all these leaks and rumors appeared on the net long ago. Today, some fresh rumors came making us guess what handsets it can appear on.

The Surge S1 was an entry-level chip running on a 28nm process node and using an octa-core architecture with 4 A53 large cores and 4 small cores. It’s been even said this chip may appear on some Nokia phones. And though no one says this wouldn’t happen, we still haven’t seen another smartphone with a Surge S1 on the board.
As for now, it’s said the Xiaomi Surge S2 will be based on a TSMC 16nm process technology still using an octa-core architecture (4xA73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz + 4x A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz). It also will come with a built-in Mali G71MP8 GPU, UFS 2.1 and LPDDR4 support. But as it doesn’t support CDMA network, any phone powered with it won’t work in the US.
If the Surge S1 was considered as a rival of the Snapdragon 625 and MediaTek P20, the Surge S2 is said to compete with the Kirin 960. The Surge S2 is said to debut at MWC 2018. The first device with it is assumed to be the Xiaomi Mi 6C. But we are getting leaks and rumors concerning the Xiaomi Mi 6X and Xiaomi Mi A2. So is it possible the new Xiaomi chip will appear on them?
