Xiaomi MIUI Operations manager today spilled the beans on Xiaomi’s Android 7.0 Nougat update plans. The official revealed in a Weibo post that the company is currently beta testing the Nougat update for multiple devices. Strangely however, it appears the manufacturer’s latest flagship devices such as the Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Mi 5S and the Mi 5S Plus aren’t being prioritized.
The first Xiaomi smartphones to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update will be the Mi 4C, Mi 4S, and the Xiaomi Note. These smartphones are expected to receive the MIUI 9 update soon, which is going to be based on Android 7.0 Nougat, although the official has not specify any timeframe in his post. If we were to guess, it is likely that Xiaomi will begin to push out the Nougat update starting early next year. And that also means that the company’s latest flagship smartphones will need to wait until Q1 2017 for the same update. Usually we see that manufacturers prioritize their latest flagship devices when it comes to rolling out major OS upgrades, so it does seem a little strange that Xiaomi is updating older devices first.
A few manufacturers such as Motorola, LG, HTC, and Sony have already updated their flagship smartphones to Android Nougat, while a few others are expected to begin rolling out the update to their flagship handsets before the end of this month.
