Even though it hasn’t been a full year since Xiaomi debuted the Redmi 3, the company is almost ready with its successor. After getting certified by China’s TENAA recently, the upcoming smartphone has been leaked online yet again. According to the latest leak, the Redmi 4 is going to be a significant upgrade over the Redmi 3 in most areas, with key hardware specs similar to the Redmi 3s.

While the display size is going to remain the same at 5-inches, the resolution will be upgraded to 1080 x 1920 from 720 x 1280 on the Redmi 3. Powering the Redmi 4 will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core chipset, which is a decent upgrade over the Snapdragon 616 SoC powering the Redmi 3. The octa-core chipset will be paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. The rear camera will offer the same 13MP resolution, but with a dual-tone LED flash. Over on the front, the Redmi 4 will come with a 5MP unit for selfies.

In terms of battery life however, the Redmi 4 isn’t going to be an improvement over the previous generation model. Xiaomi will equip the Redmi 4 with the same 4000mAh unit that does duty inside the Redmi 3.

The smartphone is rumored to launch at 1,300 Yuan in China, which converts to S$268.42. That’s significantly higher than the current price of the Redmi 3, but it is to be expected as the Redmi 4 will be a major upgrade over its predecessor in a few areas. It will be available in three color options – Gray, Silver, and Gold.
