The news Xiaomi is going to launch a robotic vacuum cleaner has been buzzing in the net for almost a month, when some packages had spotted in photos. Later the manufacturer announced the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum showcasing its ambitions concerning this market. Honestly, the Mi Robot Vacuum leaves dual impression – on one hand, it comes with unique and useful features, but on the other hand there are some features we can criticize it as well. Regardless, these facts the Xiaomi vacuum cleaner is going to win many users’ hearts due to its design and smart behavior. We have already reviewed it and learned its key features, so it’s the right time to take the cover off and look what’s inside.
Before starting tear Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum down let’s remember what specs list it comes with. The cleaner is packed with a Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithm to calculate the map, a brushless DC motor delivering up to 1800Pa air pressure, a 5,200mAh 14.4V lithium-ion battery that is enough to clean up to 250 square meter area in about 2.5 hours and so on. The next astonishing features are its sensors. The Laser Distance SensorLDS provides a 360 degrees scanning (1800 times/second), but there are other 11 sensors. To work with those 12 sensors (LDS, wall, dust bin, collision, ultrasonic radar, cliff, electronic compass, gyroscope/accelerator, drop, speedometer, and fan speed) the cleaner sports 3 dedicated processors: a quad-core processor from Allwinner, a STMicroelectronics ARM processor, and a Texas Instruments LDS image processor. There are also two brushes (the main brush and the side brush). Finally, the cleaner moves on three wheels (two wheels and the caster).
We can say this is the summary of the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum, and may be it’s enough to order your own. You will have to pay 1,699 yuan ($250), which is the way cheaper than the weaker competitor of this device, the Roomba that is priced at 5,699 yuan ($850).
But Xiaomi product are known for their durability. Moreover, Xiaomi is so popular thanks to its disassembling opportunities. I guess you understand we are going to tear it down to explore what pieces it consists of.
To start disassembling we have to prepare corresponding screwdrivers.
We have to start dismantling from the bottom of the cleaner.
Once you have found those 6 ports start screwing.
Once it’s done, do not hurry to remove the bottom cover, as you have to remove the floating main brush first.
Then You have to screw the only screw on the side brush to remove it.
Now when all the brushes have been removed, it’s the right time to open the bottom cover and look at the internals.
As you see we have hurried to see the internals – we have to remove the battery and two wheels now.
Now remove the second part of the side brush.
To remove the upper cover we have to take off the bumper protection plate and back plastic case first.
This is the right time to get the upper cover off.
Once you open the upper cover, you can see the LDS, which is the key feature of this device. Fortunately, it’s fixed solidly and it’s difficult to harm.
The same can be said for the rest of sensors.
Now you can take the motherboard off.
That’s all, folks! The Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum consists of the following parts.
