If my memory serves me well, Xiaomi has completed all the main products upgrade by launching the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 (20.000mAh). The second gen Mi Power Bank at a capacity of 20.000mAh comes at the same pricing what we’ve seen for the previous version. It’s sold at 149 yuan ($21.5). This means customers will pay the same money in order to get an enhanced power bank. For example, the Mi Power Bank 2 supports two-way charging instead of a one-way charging on the older model. But this is not the only replacement. So let’s see what else we can find in the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2.
Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 20.000mAh Packaging and Design
We have already managed to come with a Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 unboxing article, but let’s look at it one more time.
The packaging is in white with a product photo printed on the front.
The same can’t be said for the back, as it is identical to the older model’s packaging, where we can find product details and a security label.
The right side comes with a few other features information, but I guess users are mostly interested in the fast charge logo finally appeared on the packaging.
After opening the transparent plastic seal we can get the inner tray.
The box comes with the power bank itself, a short micro USB cable, and a manual.
Both sides of the Mi Power Bank 2 the front and the rear panels come with texture bumps, but the sides are smooth.
The Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 USB ports are protected from dust via a special tape. So when you don’t need to use any of those ports, you can keep the tape on.
The power button is located on the left upper side, and it is slightly lower than the surface to avoid inadvertent pressure.
The panel carrying the ports is slightly concave to avoid friction to the socket. The power display comes with four LED lights.
As you see, the top panel carries two USB Type-A ports as well as a micro USB port.
The bottom side comes only with a basic info on the product like a capacity, output and input power and so on.
Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 20.000mAh Tear Down and Build Quality
The shell and the cover are attached via an ultrasonic welding at several points, but they can be separated easily.
Opening the cover we can see Xiaomi’s ‘old friend’, a LISHEN battery supplied by ATL, probably the most popular Chinese battery vendor that is Samsung’s supplier of batteries as well.
There are two 10.000mAh batteries with 38.5W. The model is M74.
The PCB attached to the bottom case by four screws.
There is also a plastic shell made to protect the battery from damages when the power bank falling.
We can see the LED indicator attached to the top side. There are also a few sponge tapes to fix the battery securely.
Below are a few photos of the back and front sides of the main unit as well as the PCB.
On the upper left corner we can see the NTC thermal probe pad that is responsible for monitoring the battery temperature and cut off it’s overheated. The 8205B is responsible for protecting the USB.
The right USB also uses the 8205B for protection.
Turning the unit we can see the United States Texas Instruments TITPS61088A synchronous rectifier boost chip, which is packaged in a 20-pin VQFN with an 11m? power switch as well as a 13m? rectifier switch.
Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 20.000mAh Testing
The first testing shows the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 supports conventional 5A output. As the curve below shows, the starting voltage is 5.02V and it ends at 4.83V. The nominal capacity is 2.4, but the maximum capacity can reach 2.9A with the maximum output power of 14W.
The second testing screenshots shows the starting voltage is 9.00V and it ends at 8.29V. The nominal 9V rated capacity is 2.0A, but it can reach up to 2.9A with the maximum output power of 24W. The normal output mode is between 0.1A ~ 2.6A, because after 2.7A the voltage began to fall into the power limit stage.
Finally, the third screenshot shows the starting voltage is 12.00V and it ends at 8.25V. The nominal 12V rated capacity is 1.5A, but it can reach up to 2.9A with the maximum output power of 23.9W. The normal output mode is between 0.1A ~ 1.9A, because after 2.0A the voltage began to fall into the power limit stage.
Wrap Up
The Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 comes with a two-way charging technology that is a great step forward in comparison to the older version. Moreover, it supports several fast charging technologies including Quick Charge 3.0 and Huawei FCP. The only shortcoming is the lack of the USB Type-C, but I guess the manufacturer didn’t pack it with this port not to affect the pricing. The Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 is priced identical to the first gen model, 149 yuan ($21.5). Therefore, now you can acquire an improved mode at the same pricing. Great!
