Xiaomi Mi Note 2 vs Meizu Pro 6S: Flagships Comparison

207

Recently Xiaomi launched its flagship dubbed as the Mi Note 2. This phone comes with a list of outstanding features and the company has also managed to price it quite affordable. So the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 has all chances to rewrite Xiaomi’s history. But Xiaomi is not on the first position (yet) when it comes to smartphone sales. Moreover, it is pushed back due to a few more popular brands such as Meizu, Huawei and Apple. But we can’t say the picture will remain the same for 2016 as there appeared many other players that makes current leaders take it more seriously and improve their products. Shortly, the competition has become tougher and it reflects in all markets. The high-end smartphone market is no exception. Therefore, it’s quite expected to see an actual rival for the latest creation of Xiaomi, the Mi Note 2. There is one – the Meizu Pro 6S. This phone was launched almost at the same time, and it has many common lineaments compared to the Mi Note 2. So let’s see which of them has more chances to grab the first position.

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 vs Meizu Pro 6S: Design

When it comes to design, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 key feature is the 3D glass body. Thus the phone is curved on both sides. While many think on it as a stylish look, many people know this is mainly made for better ergonomics. If the manufacturer curved only back or front, the phone would be very uncomfortable to hold by one hand. I am even not talking about interacting with it.

Anyway, this is a real difference in comparison to the original Xiaomi Mi Note, and it shows how this series changes during the time. The same can’t be said for the Meizu Pro 6S. Seems the company likes the design of the original Pro 6 and decided not to change it drastically. Moreover, the Meizu Pro 6S is identical to the Meizu MX6. Thus this phone doesn’t come at a unique design. But there is one design element we have to take into account – the Meizu Pro 6S uses curved antenna design similar to iPhone 7.

So I think the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 offers more attractive look rather than the Meizu Pro 6S. the former one also comes with big changes if compared to the original model, while the Pro 6S offers what we have been already familiar with.

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 vs Meizu Pro 6S: Screen and Performance

Though both handsets come with a 1080p resolution screens, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 sports a 5.7-inch display, while the Meizu Pro 6S is packed with a 5.2-inch screen. But the main difference is related with the type of screens – the Mi Note 2 features a dual curved screen and though it doesn’t support the Frame Interactive Technology we talked about in our What is Missing in Xiaomi Mi Note 2 to Be the GOD article, the manufacturer has customized the UI to use the curved edges of the phone when working with the phone. On the other hand, the Meizu Pro 6S comes with a traditional flat screen, and the company has added no enhancements to it. We have already heard the flat version of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is coming, and probably the Pro 6S will compete with it. So this is not the duel of two curved phones, and the Meizu Pro 6S yields its competitor in terms of screen, undoubtedly.

The things are different when it comes to performance, because the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 comes in different versions. The Standard Edition Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is powered with a Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor clocked at 2.35GHz and paired with a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM. The High Edition comes with the same processor but the memory combination is the following – 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM. There is also a global version supporting 37 frequencies. The Meizu Pro 6S has only one version, so it will be fair to take the Standard Edition Mi Note 2 for comparison. As for the Meizu device, it is packed with a Mediatek MT6797T Helio X25 deca-core CPU paired with the same 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM. But let’s take a glance at the benchmark results to understand whether the number of cores matter.

As you can see, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is 45k points higher than Meizu Pro 6s, thus it is the way more powerful than its rival, obviously.

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 vs Meizu Pro 6S: Camera and Battery

The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 sports a Sony IMX318 newest sensor at 23MP with f/ 2.0 aperture and 6P Lens. This camera is capable of capturing 5488×4112 pixel photos and record 4K videos at 30fps. This camera module also features a PDAF, EIS, and independent 3-axis gyroscope. The phone also sports an 8MP front camera powered with Sony IMX 268 lens along f/2.0 aperture, beauty mode 3.0, auto-focus, and self-timer photo. Not bad, right?

The Meizu Pro 6S comes with a 12MP camera, while its predecessor offered a 21MP module. But the megapixels don’t matter. This phone is powered with a super high-quality Sony IMX386 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and 4-axis optical image stabilization (OIS). That’s not a secret OIS is the way better than EIS, and do not be surprised to see better photos taken by the Meizu Pro 6S. Plus, the latter supports 4K video recording, custom 6P lens, zero shutter lag, ring flash, PDAF, and laser focus. The front camera is not bad as well – it is at 5MP at f/2.0 aperture.

So as both models are packed with great camera modules, they are capable of taking great captures. And the only advantage is the presence of OIS at Meizu Pro 6S.

Though we have complaining on the Xiaomi Mi Note 2’s 4070mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0, the Meizu Por 6S is packed with a smaller capacity battery only at 3060mAh. But the former one sports a bigger screen, which means it will drainage faster.

Pricing and Conclusion

Generally, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is a head higher than the Meizu Pro 6S. In other words Xiaomi has worked more on its flagship than Meizu has done. But all these statements can disappear once the pricing policy is set incorrectly.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Standard Edition is priced at $509.9 at GearBest, while the Meizu Pro 6S is sold for $561.09. It turns out the latter is weaker but costs more. So the winner in this comparison review of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 vs Meizu Pro 6S is the former one.
