While the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 isn’t yet official, some interesting new info regarding its “Pro” sibling has surfaced online today, courtesy of a Weibo user. According to an “About Phone” screenshot shared on Weibo, the Mi Note 2 Pro will be the first Xiaomi smartphone to feature up to 8GB of RAM.
The Mi Note 2 Pro shouldn’t be confused with the Mi Note 2, which is expected to be made official soon. The Mi Note 2 Pro will be the successor to the Mi Note Pro launched last year, a couple of months after the Mi Note went on sale. This year as well, we expect the Mi Note 2 to launch first, while the Mi Note 2 Pro could follow a few weeks or even months later.
The screenshot also reveals that the smartphone will include a whopping 256GB of internal storage and is going to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core SoC clocked at 2.6 GHz. The Mi Note 2 is also expected to be powered by the very same chipset and is rumored to be offered with 256GB of internal storage on the top end variant. While the hardware will be extremely impressive, the Mi Note 2 Pro will be up-to-date in terms of software as well. The screenshot reveals that the device currently runs on Android 7.0 Nougat OS with the company’s MIUI 8 on top. This does make us wonder if the Mi Note 2 will also ship with the latest version of Android out of the box.
For now though, all eyes are on the Mi 5S, which is going to be officially unveiled next week at a media event in China. The Mi 5S will succeed the Mi 5 flagship smartphone launched earlier this year and is going to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset. The smartphone will also feature up to 6GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, 12MP rear camera, and an 8MP selfie camera.
