Finally Xiaomi has officially launched the Mi Note 2 in an action packed event held in China. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 indeed lived up to its billing of an exceptional device from Xiaomi that can truly stand its own against the likes of the Galaxy series and other flagships.
The Mi Note 2 indeed comes with much of the rumored specs, one major feature missing from the lot is the dual rear cameras. The device instead packs a highly sophisticated Sony camera at the rear. The Mi Note 2 sports a double curved flexible OLED display, the display comes in 5.7 inches with 3D glass on the front as well as behind providing some extra protection. The display panel can output up to 110% NTSC color gamut and 100,000:1 contrast ratio.
On the body design, the Mi Note 2 is said to utilise a body frame made of Aerospace grade 7 series aluminium, giving the device a sleek look. The body comes coated in two difference color options; Glacier Silver and Bright Black. The flagship Mi Note 2 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 8 out-of-the-box.
On the hardware terrain, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 features a Snapdragon 821 chipset clocked at 2.35GHz, supplemented by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space. There is a base version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The battery doesn’t disappoint either, packing a mammoth 4,070mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 for faster charging. The device also features a Hi-Fi sound quality and low distortion with a AQSTIC HD audio processor. There is also NFC for fingerprint payments and improved GPS.
On the camera end, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 might have gotten some persons disappointed in not sporting a dual rear camera set up but disappointment shouldn’t come in when you discover there is a powerful 22.56MP Sony IMX318 EXMOR RS sensor at the rear camera with Electronic Image stabilization, 3-axis gyroscope but no IOS. The camera also comes with PDAF as well as a f/2.0 aperture and support for 4K video shoot.
The front camera comes studded as well, sporting an 8MP Sony IMX268 EXMOR RS sensor with f/2.0 aperture and beaty 3.0 software to tweak things up. The front shooter also comes with built-in autofocus to aid capturing clear selfies from any distance.
On top of these heavy, well studded specs line-up, you can actually own and use the Mi Note 2 anywhere in the world. As we earlier reported, the Mi Note 2 features a Global edition with 37 LTE global bands, only available on the top-end model though.
Coming to the most important aspect to our pockets, the price, the flagship didn’t come as expensive as had been speculated. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 starts at a cheap price tag of 2799 Yuan ($413) for the base model with 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM. There is another version with 6GB RAM + 128GB RAM priced at 3299 Yuan ($487). Finally there is a Special Global Edition also with 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM but with 37 LTE bands from across the world with a price tag of 3499 Yuan ($516).
