Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun today published a post on China’s social networking site Weibo revealing that the company’s next flagship device, the Mi Note 2, has entered mass production. Since the info comes straight from the company CEO, the device’s existence is now confirmed. The Mi Note 2 was expected to arrive in September this year, but the release apparently got delayed for some reason. Instead of the Mi Note 2, the company released the Mi 5s and the Mi 5s Plus last month.
Recent rumors suggest that the Mi Note 2 will arrive in two variants, both sporting different sized displays. The 5.15-inch variant will offer 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution flat display with 3D Touch, while the 5.7-inch variant will be a curved unit with 1440 x 2560 Quad HD resolution and the same 3D Touch tech. In terms of hardware, the Mi Note 2 won’t be very different from the Mi 5s and the Mi 5s Plus. It will be powered by the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC and is going to be available with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, depending on the variant. As for storage, the base variant is expected to come with 64GB of internal memory while the top end variant could offer up to 256GB of internal memory.
In the camera department, the 5.7-inch model is likely to sport a dual camera setup at the back with two 12MP sensors. The 5.15-inch variant on the other hand will come with a single camera at the back, equipped with optical image stabilization.
Since the smartphone has entered mass production already, we can expect it to be officially announced by the end of this month or by early next month. Sales will most likely commence by the end of next month.
