Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun had revealed a few weeks back that the company has already started working on the successor to the Mi MIX phablet. The second generation Mi MIX phablet will be designed by French designer Philip Starck, who had also contributed to the design of the original model. Some more details regarding the Mi MIX 2 has surfaced online, courtesy of a new leak on Weibo.

The Mi MIX 2 will apparently be using a new in-display fingerprint technology developed by Chinese company Goodix, which it showcased at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona last month. It allows manufacturers to integrate the fingerprint scanner within the display panel, negating the need for a separate home button or moving the fingerprint sensor to the rear. Apple too is expected to use in-display fingerprint technology on the iPhone 8, but the leak says Xiaomi will in fact be the first to use the technology.

Analyst Pan Jiutang has confirmed the info and says the Mi MIX 2 will be launched sometime in the second half of 2017. While the original Mi MIX boasts a 91.3% screen-to-body ratio, the Mi MIX 2 is expected to feature an even more impressive 93% screen-to-body ratio. Apart from a higher screen-to-body ratio, the handset is tipped to come with a few other innovative features as well.
