Two months ago Xiaomi released a couple of new TV boxes dubbed as the Xiaomi Mi Box 3S and 3C. As it’s been expected these TV boxes came with innovative technologies. I mean Xiaomi never launches products without a competitive feature. This time it was an artificial intelligence module controlling the TV boxes. Therefore, the Xiaomi Mi Box 3S and 3C can be considered as the first products from this category capable of learning what users do periodically and make suggestions to provide better experience over time. As of now, we’ve decided to take a peek inside the box in order to find out what parts it’s made of and ascertain in its high build quality.
First, you don’t need any screwdriver to open the Xiaomi Mi Box 3S. This screw-free design is quite acceptable, but it should meet some requirements. Before we’ll ascertain in it, I have to say it’s very easy to open this box.
Once opened we can see the blue PCB fixed on the upper panel via 4 screws.
The signal reception panel with a light indicator is fixed without screws as well. It can be removed easily as well.
The bottom panel doesn’t carry anything. It comes with a textured design made for more structural strength. Therefore, it’s not easy to bend.
To remove the PDB from the upper panel you should use Phillips screwdriver.
There is a metal plate with a thermal film attached.
The main components of the Xiaomi Mi Box 3S seem to be hidden well. Once another metal plate is removed we can see the RAM and a few other features.
However, the components on the mother board are arranged in a regular and older way. Thus, it’s an one- chip technology with no welding parts providing longer lifetime.
This is the WiFi / Bluetooth module.
The Xiaomi Mi Box 3S comes with a HDMI 2.0a standard supporting 18G bandwidth, 4K video output at 60Hz and so on.
The removable metal plate also comes with a thermal film to provide stronger thermal support and more stable operation.
The master area carries an Amlogic S905X processor qith 4 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and with Cortex A53 architecture. As we know, a single-chip solution integrates the CPU, GPU, multi-decoder, audio codec, and PHY port. The SoC comes with a Mali-450 5-core GPU supporting H.264 and H.265 decoding as well as Google VP9. The previous model supports only Google VP8.
The internal storage comes from Toshiba. The model is THGBMHG6C1LBAIL, and it’s at capacity of 8GB. Compared to previous gen eMMC 5.1 standards this one provides faster transfer rate.
On the opposite side we can find the RAM of 2GB capacity. It integrated four 512MB DDR3 RAMs.
We can also see the conventional power supply, audio IC and many more.
I didn’t say, but the Xiaomi Mi Box 3S continues the attractive design style coming our way from the original Xiaomi Mi Box 3.
However, compared to the Xiaomi Mi Box 3 this model comes with a blue PCB as well as another SoC and memory storage. Thanks to a decent specs list including an Amlogic S905X quad-core CPU clocked at 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, an artificial intelligent module, good connectivity options, 4K video support and many more the Xiaomi Mi Box 3S can be considered as one of the best TV boxes available in the market.
