We have learned Xiaomi won’t participate at the MWC that means we shouldn’t see new flagships till March. But the latest news coming our way from ‘The Wall Street Journal’ says the new Xiaomi flagship will be released next month. Moreover, it will be packed with a self-developed processor. As the source thinks, this phone will be much anticipated Xiaomi Mi 6.
As we know, Xiaomi has developed its own chipset dubbed as the Pinecone. The first phone to come with this processor should be the Xiaomi Mi 5C. But the latter will sport the lower version of Xiaomi’s own CPU, V670. The higher model known as the V970 should appear on the Xiaomi Mi 6S and Mi Note 3 first. Now when there are some problems with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 supply, Xiaomi may turn into its own resources. I mean this is quite reasonable this manufacturer will launch its next flagship packed with its in-house made processor.
A Xiaomi phone with a self-developed processor should appear anytime. And the capacity problems at Qualcomm’s side may boost the process. This will help the company not to rely on Qualcomm and MediaTek much. Earlier it has been known there is only the V670 chipset made to compete with the Snapdragon 808. It comes at an architecture of 4 x A53 + 4 x A53, paired with a MaliT860 MP4 GPU clocked at 800HMz but using a 28nm process. But if the company wants to free from Qualcomm and other chip makers, it should offer something more powerful. The V970 is what we want. It comes with 4 cores at A73 architecture, and 4 cores at A53. The first core bunch frequency is 2.7GHz, while the second one is clocked at 2.0GHz. The Pinecone V970 also comes with a Mali G71 MP12 GPU running at 900MHz. Thus the Xiaomi Pineocone V970 is quite competitive to the Snapdagon 835. Moreover, it comes with the same 10nm process technology for faster and improved performance.
As for the rest of rumors, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is said to come in three versions – curved screen sporting a flat screen and Snapdragon 835 CPU, and two flat screen models. One of them should come with a Snapdragon 835 processor, while the next one should be powered with a MediaTek Helio X30 SoC. Now when we know the Xiaomi Mi 6 is rumored to come with a self-developed version, it’s reasonable to think Xiaomi has replaced the MediaTek CPU with Pinecone. Thus there will be three versions of the Xiaomi Mi 6 – the curved screen variant should be equipped with a Snapdragon 835; one of the flat versions should come with the same processor; and finally, the third flat screen model should be packed with a Xiaomi Pinecone V970 chipset.
The rest of features include a 4GB / 6GB RAM, 128GB / 256GB internal storage, 12MP IMX362 sensor, 3000mAh battery, and Android 7.0. The pricing for this phone should start at 1999 yuan ($290). However, the latest statement is a bit disputable. Xiaomi and other manufacturers have started increasing the prices for their products due to increased costs for components and exchange rate fluctuations. So it has been reasonable to assume the upcoming flagships such as the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Huawei P10 will priced the way more than the previous gen devices. But the presence of Xiaomi’s own-made processor can be a game changer – Xiaomi can keep the current pricing policy and outrun its competitors.
