Xiaomi is preparing a refresh to its flagship Xiaomi Mi 5 handset for later this year. The new Xiaomi Mi 5s is expected to pack better hardware such as Snapdragon 821, 6 GB of RAM, 256 GB of UFS 2.0 storage, better camera setup, and we now have more information on specifications.
Thanks to a new leak, we now know that the handset will pack Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor dubbed as Snapdragon Sense ID. The fingerprint relies on ultrasonic 3D scanning and works through various surfaces, including glass, sapphire, metal, aluminum, and plastic. This means manufacturers can embed scanners within frames or panels, instead of using dedicated places.
