Last month, Xiaomi unveiled the successor to the Redmi Note 3 from earlier this year, dubbed Redmi Note 4. The smartphone is currently on sale only in China, powered by the MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core SoC. However, according to Pan Jiutang, Xiaomi will not launch a Snapdragon-powered Redmi Note 4 variant in markets outside China.
The Redmi Note 3 too was announced with a MediaTek chipset at launch, the Helio X10. However, soon after its launch, Xiaomi also unveiled a Snapdragon 650-powered variant of the smartphone, which went on to become hugely popular in markets outside China, particularly in India. Now, if Pan Jiutang is accurate with his info, Xiaomi will not be able to release the Redmi Note 4 in the Indian market, as the Chinese tech company is banned from selling MediaTek-powered smartphones in the country. Xiaomi fans in other Asian markets need not worry though, as Xiaomi will be able to sell the MediaTek-powered Redmi Note 4 in most markets without having to worry about any legal issues.
The Redmi Note 4 features a 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD display and a premium metal build. As mentioned above, the smartphone is powered by the deca-core Helio X20 chipset from MediaTek, clocked at 2.1 GHz. It comes in two memory configurations – 2GB/16GB and 3GB/64GB. At the back, the smartphone packs a 13MP primary camera with a dual-tone LED flash, phase detection autofocus, and an f/2.0 aperture lens. For selfies, the Redmi Note 4 comes equipped with a 5MP camera on the front, paired with a similar f/2.0 aperture lens. Both the rear as well as front-facing camera can shoot videos at up to 1080p resolution. Other key features of the Redmi Note 4 include a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, large 4100mAh capacity battery, and all the usual modern connectivity features that you would expect.
