Xbox Exec Says PS4 Pro Specs Can't Deliver "T…

The inclusion of 4K support is a primary selling point for the PlayStation 4 Pro, but Microsoft doesn’t believe the console can really provide a 4K gaming experience, unlike its upcoming Scorpio console. According to Xbox executive Albert Penello, the PS4 Pro can’t offer “true 4K” and it’ll have more “asterisks around the 4K experience” than Scorpio.

Penello bases that on the PS4 Pro only offering 4.2 teraflops of power, compared to Scorpio’s 6 teraflops.

[Developers are] going to be able to decide to take that six teraflops of power and do what they think is best for their game. But I know that 4.2 teraflops is not enough to do true 4K. So, I feel like our product aspired a little bit higher, and we will have fewer asterisks around the 4K experiences we deliver on our box. – Penello

The Scorpio’s specs have been designed specifically to meet the needs of Xbox developers, says Penello.

Why did you choose six teraflops?…Why did you choose 384Gb/s in memory bandwidth? What’s the point of those numbers? The point of those numbers was to deliver Xbox One-quality games in 4K. That’s the point of those numbers. – Penello
