Just a few moments ago, the team behind the popular Wine open-source and free implementation of Windows on Unix announced the availability of the Wine 1.9.23 development release.
Wine 1.9.23 comes approximately two weeks after the release of the Wine 1.9.22 update to add HID bus support for Apple’s new macOS Sierra 10.12 operating system, color font support in Direct2D, additional color formats in Direct3D, uninstallation fixes in the MSI Windows installer implementation, as well as various bug fixes and improvements to several Windows applications and games.
For example, users will be able to better enjoy the Myst V: End of Ages, Sonic Heroes 1.0, Startopia, World of Warcraft, Unturned, Colin McRae Rally 2005, Titan Souls Demo (Steam), Legend of Grimrock 2, Final Fantasy XI, Flame in the Flood, Into the Stars, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux, StarCraft II 3.6.0, The Forest: Terminal, Codename Panzers: Phase Two, Insane 2, and Sonic Utopia games.
Smart Cutter 1.9.4 and MDDClone apps received improvements
Among the Windows applications that should work a lot better in Wine under Linux-based operating systems, we can mention Smart Cutter 1.9.4, MDDClone, Superbase, Temper, iMule, GPSTrack, Cisco IP Communicator 7.0.4.0, Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2010, PCSX2 1.4.0, Wordpad, and S3CC921. The www.cryptopro.ru installer was also improved in Wine 1.9.23.
Wine 1.9.23 is now available for download for GNU/Linux users, and it’s a recommended update if you want to use the Windows apps and games listed above. The new version should soon be available in the software repositories of your favorite distribution as well, so please update at your earliest convenience.
