A few days ago, Xiaomi unveiled its new smartphone, Xiaomi Mi 5X and just like other flagships which have been released by Xiaomi, this product comes with an unbelievably cheap price tag. One state-of-the art specification of this smartphone is what we already know; it runs the new MIUI 9 (based on Android 7). It has long been rumored that the build of this smartphone is based on iPhone 7 and indeed, its release has proven that price of information to be so true.
The question now is, “Why to buy an iPhone 7 for over $600 when you can get a Xiaomi Mi 5X for much lower?” One of the mistakes that many customers make is “manufacturer bias” which is a situation whereby a particular smartphone is favored simply because it is coming from a certain manufacturer. Experience and confessions by customers have shown that there are usually many later regrets. This flagship delivers all the top-notch performance as you will expect from a phone of its kind, however, like all smartphones, it has some down points.

Let us now take a closer look at the details of the Xiaomi Mi 5X and I’m sure at the end, you will be convinced that this product is worth buying.
Design & Appearance
The hood of this flagship smartphone is just as premium as what it has beneath its skin. Before we go into its silk body design, let us talk about its portability. Xiaomi Mi 5X weighs only 165 grams with a dimension of 7.5cm x 15.5cm x 0.7cm. This means that it will perfectly fit into your average size breast pocket and it wouldn’t even incontinence you. The body of this flagship is forged from metal using the time-consuming CNC process. The back of the Mi 5X is anodized which is an indication that it probably went through the sandblasting process. This smartphone is currently available in black, gold and rose-gold colors.
Hardware & Performance
This is perhaps the most important aspect of any smartphone and the Xiaomi Mi 5X has not done badly in this regards, in-fact it is of the excellent class except you are a perfectionist lol. This flagship is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 MSM8953 processor clocking 2Ghz which is not bad for a smartphone of its class. The processor is supplemented by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory which can be expanded. It ships with Qualcomm Adreno 506 GPU which is an indication that there are no worries when it comes to displaying quality.
This smartphone uses a 5.5-inch 1080p screen with a very high density and 401 pixels per inch. It’s 2.5D curved glass has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 with black borders encircling the screen to guard against accidental touches. The camera department is perhaps one of the most attractive sections of this flagship smartphone. It uses a dual camera setup which packs a 12-megapixel Sony IMX386 Exmor RS primary rear camera supported by a Samsung ISOCELL S5K3M3 secondary camera. These are supported by a 5-megapixel selfie shooter.
OS & Other Features
For me, the fact that Xiaomi Mi 5X comes with the much anticipated MIUI 9 (based on Android 7.0) with split screen and other top-notch functions is the greatest selling point of this flagship smartphone. With this OS coupled with its processor and RAM/ROM size, this is a perfect device for work and play as it would perfectly run all social media and professional apps.
It supports dual nano-SIM card, dual standby, and a rear fingerprint sensor. Other features included in this device include 3.5mm Audio Out Port, Microphone, Micro USB Slot, Speaker, Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Gravity Sensor, Gyroscope, Infrared, Proximity Sensor.
Connectivity & Battery
The Xiaomi Mi 5X uses a wireless connection with WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.2 for speedy transfer of multimedia. It supports 4G LTE as well. This smartphone ships with a 3080 Li-polymer non-removable battery which supports Fast Charge.
The Selling points
- The new MIUI 9 (World’s fastest OS)
- Dual Camera similar to Mi 6
- Great Built with hidden antenna layout
- Budget-Friendly
The Down Points
- Processor Could Have Been Better
