Western Digital WD Blue & WD Green SSDs announced

Western Digital has announced its first WD-branded SATA client SSDs – WD Blue and WD Green. These drives are targeted at both consumer PCs as well as workstations, boasting of best-in-class endurance with 1.75M hours MTTF.

The WD Blue SSDs are aimed at consumers looking for enhanced SATA performance. Optimized for multitasking and resource-heavy applications, the WD Blue lineup is available in 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB capacities. In addition to 2.5” 7mm case, the drives are also available in M.2 2280 form factor. As for performance, the WD Blue SSDs are claimed to offer up to 545 MB/s sequential read speeds and up to 525 MB/s sequential write speeds. They have an endurance rating of up to 400 TBW and carry a 3-year limited warranty. Prices range from $79 to $299 in the US market.

The WD Green SSDs are a great option for everyday use with essential-class performance. These drives are being offered in 120GB and 240GB capacities. Like WD Blue, the WD Green SSDs too come in 2.5” 7mm and M.2 2280 form factors. Western Digital claims sequential read speeds of up to 540 MB/s and write speeds of up to 405 MB/s, with an endurance of up to 80 TBW. The WD Green SSDs are set to go on sale later this quarter in select markets. While exact pricing hasn’t been revealed yet, these drives too will be backed by a 3-year warranty from Western Digital.

Both the WD Blue and WD Green SSDs include free, downloadable, WD SSD Dashboard software for continuous performance and capacity monitoring.
