If you guys don’t already know, the man behind Android, is Andy Rubin. We hear this technology superman is reportedly working on a high-end smartphone which just might challenge the industry’s flagships, taking on the likes of the iPhone and the Google Pixel.
It was actually reported at Bloomberg that the device, will actually be the focus of an array of consumer hardware products. These products will be under a new company Rubin has established called Essential.
Essential’s phone, is currently still in prototype phase. However, it is already armed with a number of impressive-sounding features. It will sport the must-have large edge-to-edge display, a bezel less frame, a ceramic rear and the ability to put on hardware components through its charging port. It appears that artificial intelligence might also be a major part of the handset, alongside Essential’s other products.
One of the prototypes is said to have a screen that bests the iPhone 7 Plus display in terms of size.
Other than its robust build and features, a part of the smartphone that particularly interests us would be the ability to support accessories that can be plugged into its charging port. This sounds like the smartphone is taking the fight to modular devices.
A modular feature as we so call it, will give users more out of the phone. It lets them to switch out accessories based on consumer’s needs and make use of the phone in more than one way. Apparently, Essential’s smartphone might have an accessory that’s a spherical camera capable of snapping 360-degree photos.
It definitely seems like this is one incredibly promising phone and the report by Bloomberg and sources mention Rubin wants to put it on the market by the middle of the year with a somewhat hefty cost of around $649/£599/AU$1,079.
