Waze’s carpooling feature is going to expand to more cities in the United States as well as parts of Latin America. Carpool isn’t meant to be a major source of revenue for drivers or Waze. Users pay a small fee to a driver in order to join their commute.
The expansion plans were discussed by Waze boss Noam Bardin during an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Since the emphasis isn’t on revenue generation for any party, the cost of using Waze Carpool is quite low and serves as a potential alternative to public transit.
One potential expansion market, says Bardin, is Sao Paulo.
