Like Uber, Alphabet’s Waymo is now opening itself up to autonomous vehicle rides for the public in Phoenix, Arizona. All of the rides are free as part of the company’s Early Rider program. You can get around the city’s metro area with Waymo’s minivans.
Among the areas supported by the program are Chandler, Tempe, Mesa, and Gilbert. You must sign up by filling out this form.
Waymo says users can utilize an autonomous Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid “every day, at any time, to go anywhere within an area that’s about twice the size of San Francisco.”
To support a large number of users, 500 additional vehicles are being added to a fleet that contains 100 Pacificas already.
