Uber reached $20 billion in bookings and $6.5 billion in revenue last year, but it ended up with a $2.8 billion loss. The loss is fairly large, though Uber’s expenses have helped it stay far ahead of Lyft.

The loss figure excludes Uber’s Chinese business, which was sold part way through the year. That business was losing $1 billion a year and Uber ended up selling it to Didi Chuxing.
