Uber has updated the way communication between drivers and riders is handled. The company’s application now includes an integrated messaging section that should make communication a bit easier. Until now, the primary form of contact was for a driver to call a rider.
At the bottom of the interface is a “contact” option. Tapping that will pull up the “chat” section. When you send a message to your driver, it’ll be read out loud so the driver is less distracted. Drivers can quickly tap their display to send a thumbs up emoji, letting riders know their message was seen. There’s also a read receipt feature for both parties.
Uber believes this should limit how much personal phone numbers are used by drivers and riders.
