Malware has been located in another version of Transmission that was posted to the developer’s site without its knowledge and pulled after a day. Security researchers at ESET say the malware, known as Keydnap, temporarily used a modified version of the BitTorrent software to spread.
After the researchers notified Transmission’s development team, the file was quickly removed. Apple has also been notified so that it can block the key associated with the software and prevent it from running.
This situation comes months after Transmission was used to spread KeRanger, the first known piece of ransomware for Mac.
