Toyota Research Institute (TRI) has introduced a new autonomous vehicle model based on the Lexus LS 600hL. TRI will be using this model as it continues research into nearly full autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance features.
It is specifically working on two capabilities, Chauffeur and Guardian. Guardian is a driver assistance feature that’ll keep people safer, while Chauffeur is Level 4 autonomy, which means the car can drive itself in certain areas.
TRI received a billion dollar investment from Toyota in 2015 and it is using that money to work with vehicles like its new modified Lexus.
