The Greatest Hit & The Greatest Flopped Smartphone of…

265

The year 2016 finally reached a full stop and we welcomed 2017 will new hopes and expectations. No doubt, 2016 was the year of the evolution of smartphones. Hundreds of heart pounding smartphones were released. For those who thought that international brands would continue to dominate, should think again because 2016 was not like those previous years. The manufacturers from the Chinese land reached new horizons with the introduction of smartphones like Elephone S7 and Bluboo Edge as the cheapest curved smartphones, LeEco Le Max 2 as the cheapest phone integrating Snapdragon 820 under the hood. Moreover, for the first time, the greatest hit of the year was a Chinese smartphone and the greatest flop was a global smartphone. Still don’t get it? Well, let’s reveal those two competitors:

The Greatest Hit of 2016 – Xiaomi Mi Mix

Seriously, no one expected a frameless, edge-to-edge smartphone when Xiaomi Mi Mix hit the stage out of nowhere as Lei Jun’s (CEO of Xiaomi) surprise this fall. None expected the greatest hit of the decade to release without any promotions, any leaks. With the ultra slim bezel-less chassis designed by renowned French designer, Phillippe Starck, a revolutionary Piezo Electric earpiece and the latest Snapdragon 821 accompanied by a tremendous 6GB RAM the powerhouse hit the ‘Time’ Magazine. When the sales started, the stock sold out within 10 seconds and 30 seconds in the second sale as Xiaomi Fastest Selling Phone (probably because of the budget-friendly price and an evolutionary design). What else does a smartphone like Mi Mix need to be the greatest hit?

The Greatest Flop of 2016 – Samsung Galaxy Note 7

When Samsung introduced the Note series, it was going to be the best premium series manufactured by Samsung until that dreadful day when the latest predecessor of the series ‘Samsung Galaxy Note 7’ battery started to burst. A blast which was deadlier than the time bomb itself. Just kidding! Although, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 had everything to be a hit (Snapdragon 821, 2K curved screen, 6GB RAM, S-Pen, iris scanner) and the best competitor for Xiaomi Mi Mix and Mi Note 2 but when the first Note 7 was blown up followed by the blast of hundreds of its brothers, the flagship turned out to be a nightmare for not only Samsung but as well as the world. The first batch of the flagship was sent back to resolve the issue. A new (second) batch started to hit the market, but soon the battery explosion problem returned, followed by another retrieval. In the end, the Chairman of Samsung officially ended up Note 7 production and apologized to the world. Although, the reason for the blast was detected but it was too late, and no one could stop Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to become the greatest flop/fail of 2016. REST IN PEACE, NOTE 7!
