Tesla’s plan to acquire SolarCity has been approved by the company’s shareholders with minimal opposition. 85% of shareholders agreed to the deal, which will see Tesla spend $2.6 billion on a company co-founded and operated by Lyndon Rive, a cousin of Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
With this approval, the deal is set to close “in the coming days.”
The first product to come out of the two companies is Tesla’s Solar Roof, which was introduced last month. It can replace regular roofs, with the primary benefit of capturing energy.
