Chinese regulatory agency TENAA has certified a new Xiaomi smartphone that sports a 5-inch sized display. While the name of the smartphone hasn’t been revealed, it is being speculated that the certified smartphone could be the Redmi 5. On the other hand, some others believe that the smartphone could simply be a Redmi Note 4X variant with a smaller display, possibly carrying the Redmi 4X name. In the TENAA listing, the smartphone is referred to by its MAE136 model number.

From the images posted by TENAA, it is quite evident that the smartphone features a metal build and comes with a fingerprint scanner mounted at the back. In terms of dimensions, the smartphone is listed to measure 139.24 x 69.94 x 8.65mm. An 8.65mm profile may not sound very impressive, but the reason why the smartphone is relatively thick is that it packs a large 4000mAh capacity battery inside. Nothing else about the smartphone has been revealed on the TENAA website yet, but we do expect the agency to update the listing in the near future with complete specifications. If it is indeed the Redmi 4 successor, we expect it to offer at least a few major upgrades, especially in the memory and chipset department. The current Redmi 4 runs on the Snapdragon 430 octa-core chipset, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. The display resolution on the other hand, will most likely remain unchanged at 720 x 1280.
