Messaging app Telegram will partly give in to demands from Russian authorities, but it won’t fulfill all of their requests. The company has decided to register with the government, reports Reuters, yet it will continue refusing demands for user data and messages. Russia says the app must provide some information in order to become a registered information distributor.
While Telegram founder Pavel Durov is fine registering with the necessary authorities, he won’t compromise on the app’s confidentiality policy. This is despite requests from Russia to hand over data due to Telegram’s alleged use by terrorists.
